COMPOSITE

Composite is made from a blend of recycled hardwood and polymer, and is available in a range of colours. It’s easily laid, highly durable, completely splinter free and requires no further treatment other than cleaning. Ecologically their manufactured using wood waste and by some manufacturers recycled polymers make composite a high end ecological choice, offcuts can also be recycled.

HARDWOOD

Hardwoods are widely considered to be one of the most attractive decking options. Although initially a more expensive option, they are highly durable, strong and naturally resilient to insect damage, mound and rot, making them a long term economical choice.  The most frequently used hardwoods are, IPE, Balau, Iroko.

SOFTWOOD

Softwoods are less expensive than the composites and hardwoods but less durable. They are easy to work with, usually resulting in less time to lay which means fitting costs are lower. Good quality softwood is often chosen for its bright colour and the fresh feel that it provides. Softwood comes pre-treated for external use and can be stained to a colour of your choice.

Modern design for a practical outdoor living space

This was a large residential project where the client wanted to create a very low maintenance garden. After a good discussion and several different ideas being discussed we decided to deck the whole garden, with rendered walls for the outside borders. No more lawnmower, weeding and muddy feet in the house!
We chose Composite decking which is a great low maintenance product, doesn’t need to be maintained or cared for but just a good hose down once in a while.
I created a really nice chill out area at the back of the garden, where I built in a large corner sofa with built-in storage underneath. Also incorporated a raised bed around the back of the seating and put in a slatted screening fence to give a real contemporary, cosy and relaxing chilled area.

"During the initial meeting James quickly understood our vision for our garden renovation project, but also provided some exciting ideas that we hadn't previously considered. We weren't sure about the different types of decking available but James recommended a composite deck and we couldn't be happier with it as it is extremely low maintenance. Having raised the deck to the level of our living room and bedroom, the garden now feels as though it is a complete extension of our indoor living space and we use it so much more frequently. James is a consummate professional who has an incredible eye for detail and we would highly recommend his work."

Creating a raised deck in an unusable space

This was an area that the interior floor level and garden level were miles apart, the ground ran away a lot and the area was very uneven.
So we built a raised deck up to the level of the door seal so you could walk straight out on to the decking. So the space that was left under the decking wasn’t wasted we built a storage cupboard, which was great to store garden furniture, tools, lawnmower etc.
We built the decking using Balau hardwood, a very good durable middle of the range hardwood. Also built a balustrade using hardwood batten, kept everything really in keeping.

Transforming a roof terrace from ugly paving to hardwood decking

This was an old tired roof space with dirty stained paving slabs that weren’t nice on the eye or the feet.
We transformed the space by laying yellow Balau hardwood decking which really did give it a whole new lease of life, bought the outside inside. The client really couldn’t wait to start using the space again.

Luxury decking area at the end of the garden

The client wanted to create a luxury space coming off his music studio at the bottom of his garden, we needed to use a material that wouldn’t become slippy or grimey due to there being lots of trees around. So the perfect material to use for this would be composite, fantastic product that doesn’t need any care apart from a hose down every once in a while.
We really had a blank canvas to create a space with lots of character, so we incorporated the trees by cutting the decking around them and making the face of the decking curved.
The slate grey colour of the composite decking really complimented the hardwood studio.

Luxury low maintenance decking to compliment the conservatory

The client was looking for a product that was very low maintenance as they travelled regularly with work and knew they didn’t have time to regularly clean the new decking. Composite decking was selected as when the leaves and dirt build up there are no worries about the decking becoming slimy, slippy and rotting, it just requires the occasional sweep and hose down and the deck looks good as new!

The existing area was very unsightly and uneven, with different patches of concrete which had been repaired over the years. We created a level area all the way round the property, using slate grey composite decking to compliment the new modern conservatory.
